You'd be surprised how often folks think I'm a guy...now that we've cleared that up--hi! My name is Devon (in case you didn’t catch that already). I am originally from a tiny town called Mays Landing, NJ, smack dab in the middle of Philadelphia and Atlantic City. After high school, I hopped a midnight train to Georgia and completed my undergraduate degree in Motion Media Design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. My ultimate goal is to prove that hard work really does pay off and I do it by connecting audiences to brands by communicating core messaging through graphic, web and motion design.
I found my passion for design in High School, where I was first introduced to Web and Graphic Design. I started to find (through many, now passe Flash websites) that I had yet another passion: animating. I searched for colleges that could nurture this new passion and found the Savannah College of Art and Design. I then found a field where I could combine all of my talents: Motion Graphics Design.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to create work for a wide range of clients and brands, including Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Nickelodeon, McDonald's, Quilted Northern, Adobe Systems Inc. and The Walt Disney Company.
Outside of work, I try to volunteer my time mentoring students from my alma-mater high school about design and creative careers. Art as a career is so often discouraged in children, but because I was fortunate to have supportive friends and mentors, I realized my potential and was encouraged to follow my dreams. I wouldn’t have chased my big, crazy dreams if it weren’t for the support and encouragement I received as a young student, and being able to give back the feeling of being unstoppable and empowered to others is incredibly humbling and has brought me immense pride.
I have also worked with the Atlanta Lab Rescue and Lean In Atlanta. Lean In Atlanta is an organization that seeks gender equality for women and men in the home and in the workplace by facilitating meetings and events centered around support, education and empowerment. I've founded the Lean In Atlanta Midtown Circle and established & lead the Chapter Marketing Committee.
I proudly and happily reside in my adopted city of Atlanta, GA. By day, I am keeping it cool as a Motion Graphics Designer at Georgia-Pacific's GP Studios...by night, I constantly fight the urge to eat gratuitous amounts of Mexican food, cook, garden, bike, knit and wrangle my two cats as a proud cat-mom!
For the curious: in my unicorn-level-rare free time, I write for my blog, The Domestic Feminist, which celebrates the freedom to be through domesticity.
